Veterans K. Narayanan & Dwarakanath pass away

The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) deeply mourns the sad demise of two veteran Journalists who passed away at Coimbatore and Bengaluru on September 29, 2020.

The first Readers’ Editor and long-standing former News Editor of The Hindu, K. Narayanan, (80) passed away in Coimbatore.

Born in Palakkad, Kerala, on August 24, 1932, K. Narayanan grew up in Kozhikode and was an alumnus of Chennai’s Layola College. He joined The Hindu as a Kasturi Ranga Scholar in 1955, after a brief stint at the Indian Express.  He was appointed as a sub-editor in 1956 and rose to become the News Editor in 1978. KN, as he was fondly called, worked with The Hindu Editor G. Kasturi. He shaped a large number of a new generation of Journalists in The Hindu and later at Frontline.

Former News Editor G. Dwarakanath (86) served The Hindu for over four decades. GD, as he was affectionately called, joined the news paper on August 1, 1958, after graduating in science and law from Mysore University. He handled typical newsroom work pressure with ease and groomed youngsters in the team. He also ensured that everyone followed The Hindu’s stylebook.

The IJU expresses its profound grief on the sad demise of these two veteran Journalists.  IJU also sends its deep condolences to the bereaved family members and their friends in The Hindu and outside it.
