NEW DELHI: The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) deeply mourns the sad demise of one of its founders Santosh Kumar (94) at his residence in New Delhi on Friday.
His was a long life of struggle for the rights of both Journalists and other newspaper employees. He was the founder President of IJU and President of All India News Paper Employees Federation (AINEF). He was also leader of a number of employees unions in several leading national dailies in the national capital of Delhi. He was in the forefront of the agitation against the infamous Bihar Press Bill which led to its withdrawal.
The doyen of Journalist movement was born in West Pakistan and later migrated to Delhi. He was proficient in Urdu, Hindi and English and was a great orator and organizer. He had retired as News Editor of Pratap, an Urdu daily.
He had edited Trade Union Record, a magazine published by AITUC. He was an inspiration for many trade unionists in the country particularly in the media industry. He is survived by his daughter.
The IJU with a heavy heart very deeply mourns one of its stalwarts and founder President. It sends its heartfelt condolences to his bereaved daughter and other members of the media fraternity.
